RUG INFORMATION:
Rare Kashan Persian rug with lots of large silk highlights...
This Kashan rug dates to about 1980 and is not only one a great example of what a classic Kashan carpet is all about, but also features large silk details in the pile. Kashan rugs go back many centuries and due to the city of Kashan lying in the Isfahan province, there are also many similarities between the Kashan and Isfahan rugs. However, this Kashan rug is an absolute exception and was made with a level of quality and unique design that is rarely found in Kashan carpets.
For starters, this Kashan not only features a fine kurkwool pile made with vegetable dyes, but also features lots of areas in the pile that are made completely of silk. If you look at the pictures and also the video below, you will see me pointing out the large areas of the design that are made completely of silk. The quality is everything that the Kashan pieces are known for and it was made with a pure vegetable dye as was customary back in the old days of rug weaving. The colors and design are classic of Kashan rugs and you can see the similarities between the rug weaving cultures of Kashan and the nearby larger city of Isfahan. Due to its quality and uniqueness, it is extremely rare to find Kashan rugs in this quality and its an absolute pleasure to be able to have it as part of our collection.
