Semi-Antique Turkish Kayseri rug with rare design
This rare pure silk Turkish Kayseri is one of a handful of pieces that we purchased from an old friend of the family who used to deal in old Turkish rugs. Not only is this Kayseri rug in excellent condition and an absolute novelty, but the sheer size and design is something that is far beyond the norm.
The Kayseri rugs are not as well known as the silk Hereke rugs and are typically made of wool by weavers in the central Anatolia region. However, there are some who make these very fine pure silk Kayseri rugs although most are made of a much smaller size. This Kayseri rug is one that we have never seen in this size and condition before and the tile design is also an absolute marvel.
The condition of this semi-antique Kayseri is excellent and is like new even though we estimate that it is about 70 years old. It appears to have been placed in a showroom and and there are no damaged or worn out areas that required any repairs. Simply a stunning piece and the kind of Persian rug that collectors look for.
Info About REAL vs. FAKE Hereke Rugs
Due to the large number of inquiries I receive about genuine and fake Hereke rugs and the misinformation that are being peddled by online and rug store retailers, I have created my own YouTube channel where I offer factual information for you like the video below that is about Hereke Silk Rugs. You can see the video if you view this rug page on a laptop or desktop.
If you own or are interested in silk Hereke rugs, please watch this 17 minute video in which I show you real Turkish silk Hereke rugs and the Chinese silk couterparts that are often sold as genuine Turkish rugs. For over 20 years, I have been getting a lot of inquiries about the Hereke rugs and so many have been scammed by the rug dealers in Turkey that I thought I try to show you the difference using actual rugs.
