RUG INFORMATION:
Amazing semi-antique Turkish Hereke-Derin rug in excellent condition with 11/11 quality.
This gorgeous pure silk Turkish Hereke-Derin is one of only a handful of genuine Hereke pieces that we have been able to secure from the Derin workshop, which like so many artistic Hereke weaving centers was decimated by the influx of the cheaper Chinese made imitation Hereke rugs.
The Derin workshop was one of the smaller premier weaving house in the Hereke region of Turkey and the older Derin rugs are famous for not overdying their silk and utilizing the finest silk along with an excellent attention to detail. Here you have a perfect outcome of what you get when you combine all of the best in Hereke weaving and leave the rug in a quite place to be simply enjoyed for decades. The design of this Tree-of-Life design with the large peacock and the other birds is not only extremely rare, but so is the quality as most Derin rugs of that era were made with a 10/10 quality instead of the 11/11 that you see here.
This Hereke-Derin dates to about 1950 and as you can see in the pictures, the condition is excellent and there is an obvious patina covering the rug giving it the aged look and feel. It is a superb piece with a very fine 11/11 quality, meaning that it has 11 knots per centimeter. Perfectly suited for hanging on a wall or displaying as a decor rug, this fine Hereke-Derin is a great reminder of what the past Turkish weaving culture is all about. Simply a stunning piece and the kind of silk rug that many of my fellow collectors of rare Turkish Hereke rugs look for. As with all genuine Hereke-Derin rugs, you will see the signature in the top center.
