RUG INFORMATION:
Rare antique Kashan Persian rug...
This Kashan rug dates to about 1900 and it is not only one a great example of what the old Kashan carpets are famous for, but also in excellent condition.
Kashan rugs go back many centuries and due to the city of Kashan lying in the Isfahan province, there are also many similarities between the Kashan and Isfahan rugs. However, this Kashan rug is an absolute exception and was made with a level of quality and unique design that is rarely found in Kashan carpets.
For starters, this Kashan not only features a fine kurkwool pile made with vegetable dyes, but you can see how the rug has aged over the decade. If you look at the center and borders, you can see how the dyes have changed colors over the decades. For example, the center was originally all dark red, but you can see how the batches of wool aged differently. The same goes with the border and you can see by the shading how the dyes have aged differently.
The other feature in this antique Kashan rug is choice of design and colors, both of which are truly unique for Kashan rugs. The almost pictorial design with the flowers and columns point to this piece being most likely custom made for a buyer who had it hanging on a wall or displayed it as an artpiece. Based on the excellent condition and quality, it is safe to say that it was virtually not walked on and is simply a great showpiece for a collector of rare and fine Persian rugs.
