This Kouchouk-Aghi Hereke rug is a great example of what the lost art of genuine Hereke rugs is all about with a rarely seen almost pictorial design that makes it perfect for hanging on a wall or laying in a formal part of your home or office. With the influx of Chinese made Hereke rugs in Turkey, the local rug weaving culture is all but wiped out and find genuine Turkish Hereke rugs is becoming more and more difficult. Here is a small sized Hereke carpet with a 9/9 quality made by the Kouchouk-Aghi workshop around 1960. While the quality of this piece is everything you would expect from a genuine fine silk Hereke rug, the design with the flower bouquet and pheasants is not only beautiful, but very well done. It is an excellent piece and as with most genuine Hereke rugs, there is a signature of the Kouchouk-Aghi workshop in the top right corner in the border.
