RUG INFORMATION:
This 700 kpsi Qum rug is an extremely rare Ilam inspired masterpiece...
Please note that many refer to rugs like this one as a Ilam carpet and we label them as Qum due to the fact that it was woven in Qum, but the weavers and technique come from the Kurdish part of Ilam in western Iran. The Ilam rugs are among the finest wool and silk Persian rugs that are credited with the Kurdish people and have a very long history. Unfortunately, being that the Ilam province borders Iraq and is one of the main areas populated by the Kurds, it has felt the brunt of brutality, persecution, victimization and neglect by those in power from both sides of the border that has been documented for decades. This has led to the exodus of many Kurdish groups and one that settled in and around Qum was known for their carpet weaving craft that is found in this piece. While it is legally classified as a Qum rug, I will describe it as a Qum-Ilam out of respect to the origin of the Kurdish weavers.
Woven with the finest kurkwool and small amounts of silk highlights in the pile, this Qum-Ilam features not only a silk foundation, but also an incredible 700kpsi, which puts it right up there with the finest 70 Raj Tabriz and Isfahan rugs. If you are familiar with Ilam rugs, you will know how rare and unique the pictorial pieces are as most feature classic Persian rug designs. Perfect for a laying on a floor or hanging, this Qum-Ilam rug is clearly designed to be displayed as a fine home decor rug and the very high 700 kpsi quality along with the workmanship puts it in a masterpiece quality category.
