RUG INFORMATION:
Amazing Hereke Ozipek rug with stunning 14/14 quality, ~1250+ kpsi, and the original creator of this pictorial Tree-of-Life design known as the Sad Autumn!!
This genuine pure silk Turkish Hereke rug with a 14/14 quality ~1250+ kpsi was made by the Ozipek workshop around 1960 and comes with an interesting story for those who are passionate Hereke collectors. The Ozipek workshop was one of the premier rug weaving groups in Hereke who are renowned not only for their high quality in terms of their silk and workmanship, but were often the original creators of popular designs like in this case.
Here we have an original Ozipek pictorial Tree-of-Life design that is known as the Sad Autumn and if you look at my gallery of Turkish rugs, you will often times find other pieces made by the Ozipek or other more contemporary copies of this same design like for example the Hereke A596235 made by the Khan-Khali workshop. Since the Ozipek workshop no longer exists, the older pieces like this carpet are becoming more and more popular and at the same time harder to find. Made with a 14/14 quality, which translates to 1250+kpsi, this artpiece quality Hereke-Ozipek is in excellent condition and was treated by its original owner like an painting. 14/14 quality means 14 knots per centimeter and these are Turkish double knots, so just imagine the skills needed by the weavers back in the day to make such strong and yet intricate works of art. The attention to detail is as amazing as the workmanship and is obviously a prime example of what the Turkish Hereke rugs are famous for.
