RUG INFORMATION:
This genuine 10/10 quality pictorial Ozipek Hereke rug is a perfect example of what the popular Hereke rugs with the Mehrab designs would look like that were meant to be displayed on walls.
The Mehrab design is very common in the Hereke rugs, which I showcased in one of my videos in our YouTube channel. This design is also referred to as the prayer rug design as the tip of the window is supposed to point towards Mecca. For example, my father used a medium sized Persian rug with a single window as a prayer rug.
This is a genuine Turkish Ozipek Hereke rug with a 10/10 quality, which translates into about 625 kpsi and its a great example of what the older fine Turkish silk Hereke rugs at their peak of their production were all about. The Hereke dates to around 1970 and even though it may appear small in size, keep in mind that genuine Turkish Hereke rugs in this size were very expensive and took a long time to weave.
Most Hereke rugs with the Mehrab design feature a single window and tend to be much smaller in size as you can see in our Turkish rug gallery. In this piece, you can see the 3 windows and in a size that makes it perfect for hanging on a wall or having it framed. The workmanship and quality is everything that you would expect from an old Ozipek Hereke and it is in excellent condition. As with all genuine Turkish Hereke Ozipek rugs, this piece features the Ozipek signature in the top center of the rug.
