RUG INFORMATION:
Genuine Semi-Antique Turkish Hereke-Shekar rug in excellent condition with 12/12 quality and a detailed Tree-of-Life design.
This small pictorial pure silk Turkish Hereke-Shekar is an extremely rare find and it is a genuine Turkish piece and NOT a Chinese copy as I explain in the video below where I show Turkish and Chinese Hereke rugs and point out the differences.
The Shekar workshop was one of the well respected but very small weaving houses like the Derin and G&K weavers in Hereke and as so many others who fell victim to the influx of cheap Chinese silk rugs that have all but wiped out the silk carpet makers in Turkey. Given that this Hereke-Shekar dates to about 1960-1970, the condition is simply like new and in excellent state. What sets this particular pictorial piece apart from most Turkish Hereke silk rugs is not only the 12/12 quality, which means that it has an amazing 12 knots per centimeter or about 900+ kpsi, but also the pictorial design with the details that are well beyond the norm. Most Turkish Hereke rugs with the pictorial Tree-of-Life design feature animals and plants, but this Hereke Shekar has a level of detail and attention that is rarely ever seen in these rare rugs. Perfectly suited for hanging on a wall or displaying as a decor rug, this fine Hereke-Shekar is a great reminder of what the past Turkish weaving culture is all about. Simply a stunning masterpiece and the kind of Persian rug that collectors of rare Turkish Hereke rugs look for. As with all genuine Hereke-Shekar rugs, you will see the signature in the top and bottom center.
IMPORTANT:

You can see the video if you view this rug page on a laptop or desktop.
If you own or are interested in silk Hereke rugs, please watch this video in which I show you real Turkish silk Hereke rugs and the Chinese silk couterparts that are often sold as genuine Turkish rugs. For over 20 years, I have been getting a lot of inquiries about the Hereke rugs and so many have been scammed by the rug dealers in Turkey that I thought I try to show you the difference using actual rugs.
