RUG INFORMATION:
Amazing genuine Ahmet Hasanoglu Hereke rug with stunning 16/16 quality, which translates to about ~1600+ kpsi!!
This genuine Turkish Hereke rug is one of only a couple of very fine pieces that we have ever been fortunate to be able to aquire that were made by the Ahmet Hasanoglu workshop in Hereke. The Ahmet Hasanoglu workshop was a very small family business with apparent ties to the Imperial Ottoman court as it was one that was allowed to feature the Imperial seal in their Hereke rugs. This tradition of featuring the Imperial seal continued after the fall of the Ottoman empire and for fans of Hereke rugs, this piece is simply a great addition to our collection.
It is amazing to not only see the 16/16 quality with about 1600 kpsi in person, but also to see how well preserved this piece is given that it was made around 1960. For those who know and appreciate the Turkish Hereke rugs, this is such a rare find and you will instantly know why this is such a special piece. The 16/16 quality puts it in the finest category of handmade silk rugs and just imagine of the skills required to weave a rug with 16 knots per centimeter.
The older Hereke rugs have become very sought after as the Turkish Hereke weaving community has all but collapsed thanks to the influx of the mass produced Chinese copies. The Ahmet Hasanoglu workshop is a perfect example of how the Turkish rug weavers were completely abandoned by their government and got decimated like so many other famous workshops like the Ozipek, G&K and Derin. Back then the remarkable 16/16 quality was made possible by weavers making the rugs literally while looking through a magnifying glass, which is an old weaving technique that is all but gone. Based on our experience and knowledge, it dates back to around 1960's and since it was kept by the original as a decor and artpiece, it is like new and in flawless condition. The main blue background color is great in bringing out the various details in the design and you can see the patina kicking in as well. Also, as is customary with the genuine Ahmet Hasanoglu Hereke rugs, the Hereke signature is found in the top left corner of the rug and there the Imperial seal is to the top right.
