New Mahi design in one of the most popular designs in Tabriz rugs with everything you would expect from a high quality Persian rug. The Mahi design in Tabriz rugs is one of the best known designs in Persian rugs in general and here is a new take on the classic design. There is the classic very dark navy blue almost black background with the brownish and olive colors in the pile that has always been one of the most popular combinations in the Tabriz Mahi rugs making them perfect for high traffic areas or for under tables or other furniture.
In this case, we have a fine Tabriz rugs with all of the classic characteristics of a Mahi rug but with a new variation of the Mahi design that combines parts of the Mahi and classic Tabriz design cultures. What immediately struck me was the border of the Tabriz rug as it appears to look like a frame made with a classic Tabriz rug design and the Mahi rug inside. Also, the shape of the Mahi design with its unique wedges and yet perfect circular center is equally unique. As to the quality, this piece is well above the norm for 50 Raj Tabriz Mahi rugs and features silk in the highlights and an above normal attention to detail.
