RUG INFORMATION:
One of the rarest antique Persian rugs in our collection.
This Qum rug dates to about 1900 and it is not only one of the finest examples of what the Qum carpets were famous for, but also in excellent condition.
Qum rugs go back many centuries and the rugs from Qum are best known for being the mainly pure silk and extremely fine.
For many decades, the Qum rug weavers have dominated the high end market of pure silk rugs to such a degree that most people assume that the fine Qum rugs have always been made of pure silk, which is far from the truth and this piece is a perfect example of the true history of the Qum rugs.
This Qum rug is very rare in that it is not only a very old piece, but it is also in excellent condition. The workmanship is extremely well preserved and like all genuine Qum rugs from that era, it is made using vegetable dyes. The paisley design that you see in this Qum rug is one that was adapted by Persian rug weavers early on, but it is not commonly found in Persian rugs. The pile is very evenly worn and thanks to its superb workmanship has the quality and durability that the Qum rugs are renowned for. As you can see in the pictures, this piece is very evenly aged and it is one of those types of old Persian rugs that are becoming increasingly difficult to find in this size and condition. For fans of Persian rugs, this piece is definetely a treat and we are very proud to be able to offer it.
