Antique Ahmad Shah Qajar Persian Kerman Rug
This antique Kerman rug dates to about 1915 and depicts the ruler Ahmad Shah Qajar...br>If you are familiar with the history of Iran, you will know that prior to the Pahlavi coming to power in the late 1920's, the Qajar dynasty ruled Persia for many generations. The last ruler of the Qajar dynasty was Ahmad Shah, who came to power in 1909 at the young age of 11 and who is pictured in this Kerman rug. Due to his young age, the pictorial displays the ruler with a very boyish looking face and that is what he is often remembered as. After he was crowned the king of Persia, several carpets were ordered to celebrate his arrival on the throne and this is one of several pieces that were made by the weavers in Kerman. Being that this rug is well over 100 years old, it features a worn, but undamaged pile with wool with vegetable dyes. This is one of several sought-after antique Persian rugs that are thankfully reasonable priced due to its small size. Rare antique Persian rugs like this piece tend to be very expensive and are beyond the means of most people, so finding smaller pieces like this antique Kerman rug is quiet a thrill for Persian rug collectors and fans...
