RUG INFORMATION:
Amazing 20/20 quality Turkish Hereke rug with ~2500 kpsi.
This rare pure silk Turkish Hereke artpiece with ~2500 kpsi and a 20/20 quality is NOT a Chinese copy as I explain in the video below and it is one of several ultra fine and rare Turkish artpieces that we are fortunate enough to be able to offer.
The condition of this ultra fine Hereke is outstanding and the 20/20 quality refers to the fact that it features an amazing 20 knots per centimeter, which translates to about 4 million knots per square meter or about 2500 kpsi. These type of Hereke rugs are basically no longer made due to their extreme high cost and to give you an idea, imagine a Turkish master weaver making the rug while looking through a magnifying glass in order to make sure that each knot is of the same thickness, quality and strength. Based on us having seen these rugs being made decades ago, we estimate about 5-8 seconds for each knot and if you do the math, you can see that even a small rug like this one would take about a year to make.
It is due to the extreme high labor costs that most Turkish Hereke rugs like this one are of a small size as larger pieces would simply to too expensive and virtually impossible to make. Also, with the influx of Chinese imitation rugs that have flooded the Turkish market since the 80's and the rise in labor cost, the weaving of these extremely fine Hereke rugs have become all but extinct. This piece was purchased in the late 1970's by a private collector who had it displayed on a wall and it is in new condition. This is one of two spectacular pieces that we were able to purchase from him and there is not much more that needs to be added. If you are familiar with Turkish Hereke rugs of this caliber, you will know how rare and expensive they can be and even for someone who has been around Persian rugs all his life, this is truly a novelty. Simply a stunning piece and the kind of Persian rug that collectors look for.

IMPORTANT:
Info About REAL vs. FAKE Hereke Rugs

Due to the large number of inquiries I receive about genuine and fake Hereke rugs and the misinformation that are being peddled by online and rug store retailers, I have created my own YouTube channel where I offer factual information for you like the video below that is about Hereke Silk Rugs. You can see the video if you view this rug page on a laptop or desktop.

Important Tips about Hereke Carpets

If you own or are interested in silk Hereke rugs, please watch this 17 minute video in which I show you real Turkish silk Hereke rugs and the Chinese silk couterparts that are often sold as genuine Turkish rugs. For over 20 years, I have been getting a lot of inquiries about the Hereke rugs and so many have been scammed by the rug dealers in Turkey that I thought I try to show you the difference using actual rugs.
