RUG INFORMATION:
One of the most unusual Hereke rugs with a unique feature that makes it a certified anomaly!!
Of all of our Turkish Hereke rugs, this is a first for us and I honestly do not know if it was done on purpose or not...try to see it before you continue...
This Hereke rug is one of several pieces that we were able to obtain from a collector who had gone out of way to collect unusual rugs and this piece certainly meets that criteria. It is a genuine 9/9 quality with about 500+ kpsi and a traditional Mehrab design. Based on the paperwork and workmanship, we estimate this rug to be woven around 1970. Like most Hereke rugs that were part of a collection by a knowledgeable owner, this piece is in excellent condition and everything my clients look for in older genuine Turkish Hereke rugs...
Now comes the mystery...
Did you notice that the signature is rotated and NOT aligned with the design and that the fringes are also on the wrong side of the rug?
If you look at the Hereke gallery, you will notice several pieces that typically feature multiple Mehrab designs in a rug. We think that the original intention was for the rug to also feature several windows and for some reason the weaver or shopowner decided to stop after only one Mehrab window was added. You can see what I mean if you look at Hereke rug #159629 and you can see how there are 3 windows, which is typical. Definetely for those of you who are as freakish about handmade rugs as I am...cheers.
IMPORTANT:
Info About REAL vs. FAKE Hereke Rugs
Due to the large number of inquiries I receive about genuine and fake Hereke rugs and the misinformation that are being peddled by online and rug store retailers, I have created my own YouTube channel where I offer factual information for you like the video below that is about Hereke Silk Rugs. You can see the video if you view this rug page on a laptop or desktop.
If you own or are interested in silk Hereke rugs, please watch this video in which I show you real Turkish silk Hereke rugs and the Chinese silk couterparts that are often sold as genuine Turkish rugs. For over 20 years, I have been getting a lot of inquiries about the Hereke rugs and so many have been scammed by the rug dealers in Turkey that I thought I try to show you the difference using actual rugs. Topic #1: The different qualities in Turkish and Chinese Hereke rugs Topic #2: Differences in prices and Signatures!! Learn the truth about them and see an actual example of a signature that was added to a Chinese copy to make it look like a Turkish piece
