RUG INFORMATION:
Genuine Ali-Mahani artpiece quality Isfahan rug with a silk base and signature.
A PERSIAN RUG FAN#39;S DREAM COME TRUE!!
This Isfahan rug is a genuine and signed Ali-Mahani artpiece and if you a passionate Persian rug fan, this is one of those types of rugs you have got to see in person if you have the chance.
The Ali-Mahani Isfahan rugs come from a very small workshop in Isfahan that similar to the Dardashti workshop is known for the kurkwool being woven as highlights and the silk being the main background material. Normally, the silk is found in small amounts in the design features in Isfahan and most types of high quality rugs, but in the case of the Ali-Mahani Isfahan rugs, the opposite is done.
If for example you look at the video below or the close-up pictures, you can see that the entire gold and blue background is woven of pure silk and the pile that looks like its floating on the silk base is made of kurkwool. Normally its the other way around and the Ali-Mahani workshop is one of a few that became known for this extremely rare type of weaving. Its as if a weaver created a pure silk Qum rug and then added very fine kurkwool to parts of the rug.
It is the novelty and workmanship of the Ali-Mahani workshop that many rug collectors cherish these types of Isfahan rugs. Very similar in workmanship to the Dardashti Isfahan rugs, the Ali-Mahani pieces typically feature colors and designs like you see in this piece, whereas the Dardashti rugs are known for their open designs that are similar to the Tabriz Faraji rugs. With about 600 kpsi and truly stunning attention to detail, this piece is simply amazing to look at and the soft pile with the large medaillion is a great contrast with the blue and gold background.
