RUG INFORMATION:
Large silk Hereke rug with 7/7 quality perfect for formal rooms in homes or in an office.
This older Hereke rug is the largest genuine Turkish Hereke by the Shekar workshop in our collection. The 7/7 quality with its Turkish knot makes it an ideal choice for laying in formal rooms or offices where a luxurious rug is requested that can also be placed under furniture or out in the open. Unlike the Persian silk Qum rugs, the Turkish Hereke rugs are woven with a double-knot known as the Turkish knot, which not only gives the Hereke a superior strength over the Persian silk rugs, but also a denser and stronger pile making it perfect for laying on floors.
For years now I have been getting requests for larger genuine Turkish Hereke rugs that my clients wish to place on floors in formal rooms and one of the requirements must be that the Hereke rugs must be able to handle the traffic. Many owners of Hereke rugs and myself included consider the 10/10 quality Hereke to be almost too fine to walk on and if you are planning to place a Hereke silk rug in a traffic area or under furniture, then a piece like this one is definitely recommendable.
This Hereke rug was made by the Shekar workshop in Hereke about 50+ years ago (~1970) and is in excellent condition. The owner treated it like a showpiece and even after 50+ years of ownership, it only needed a professional wash to bring it back to shine. Normally, the Shekar workshop is best remembered for their much smaller and finer pieces, but here is exactly the kind of piece that I have been hoping and looking for. The uniform design and dark background color are classic Turkish Hereke and you can also see the signature is some of the pictures.

Video featuring this large Hereke rug

If you are able to view this page in desktop-view, you will see the video below in which I not only feature this Hereke rug, but also compare it with the pure silk Persian Qum rugs.

Comparing Hereke and Qom Rugs

If you are interested in seeing this Hereke rug and how it compares with several types of pure silk Qum Persian rugs, watch this video.

Examples of 3 different pure silk rugs and how the Hereke rug compares to the silk Qum rugs. This 7/7 quality Turkish Hereke rug is the first large sized silk Hereke that we have been able to offer and a great example of what the Turkish Hereke rugs are all about.
