Gorgeous Hereke rug with stunning quality and a rare pictorial hunting design!!
This is a genuine Hereke rug with a 10/10 quality ~625 kpsi and a level of workmanship that puts it in the upper class of the Turkish Hereke rugs. It is simply remarkable that weavers could make such rugs back in the 60's. Unfortunately, this type of rug weaving has become so expensive that most buyers choose the cheaper Chinese imitations and therefore the weavers in Turkey have all but abandoned this rare artform. Nowadays, the costs would be so prohibitive that it is extremely rare to find new Turkish Hereke rugs of this caliber.
Most Turkish silk rugs feature the more traditional designs and rectangular shapes and this is one of only a few pieces that we have ever offered with this rare horizontal shape. Another feature is the sheer workmanship and details in this pictorial hunting design, which is also very rare in Turkish rugs. In all, this is a truly unique and sought-after piece for those who appreciate the fine Turkish rugs and a great example of what the Hereke rugs are famous for. With an excellent 10/10 quality, it is simple a stunning artpiece and even though it is over 50 years old, it is in excellent condition as it was displayed as an artpiece by a collector and never walked on. At the top corner is the unique signature of the Hereke weaver, which is also a novelty as most Hereke rugs have the name Hereke woven in one top corner instead.
