Commemorative Antique Hereke rug celebrating the official century of official Hereke rugs!!
This commemorative 10/10 Hereke rug from 1941 celebrates the 100 year anniversary of the establishment of the official Hereke manunfacturer by Ottoman sultan Abdülmecid I in 1841.
For rug collectors and anyone who is into Persian carpets, this piece is very special as there are only a few of these made and after searching for many years, we finally were able to find one that was available. This silk Hereke rug is a great example of what the lost art of genuine Hereke rugs is all about with a design that makes it perfect for hanging on a wall or laying in a formal part of your home or office. With the influx of Chinese made Hereke rugs in Turkey, the local rug weaving culture is all but wiped out and finding genuine Turkish Hereke rugs in like new condition is becoming more and more difficult. The Hereke has a luxurious 10/10 quality, but there are 2 parts in this rug that makes it a true rarity.
First, if you look at the top left corner, you can see the writing Hereke 100 YIL, which means Hereke 100 years old. This marking was only allowed to be placed on Hereke rugs by the Turkish government on rugs that were made specifically for the anniversary by certain weavers. You will notice that this inscription is not found on any other Hereke rug that we offer and if you shop around for Hereke carpets in general, you will most likely not find another one like it.
The second unique feature of this Hereke rug is the design, which is also very rare for Hereke rugs. Notice the solid beige background with only a few features...and look closely...
There is a chandelier under the center top one and that is on one side only. Typically, Hereke rugs are woven with a perfect symmetry down the middle so that the left half is a mirror reflection of the right side. If you look closely at most of the Hereke rugs, you will see that both sides are typically a perfect match and here we have not only a chandelier that is mounted to the left pilar only, but also the butterflies and floral bouquet are not in symmetry, which are equally unique.
