Rare Antique Serhad Hereke rug made by the Serhad weaving manufacturer!!
This rare antique Serhad Hereke rug dates back to between 1940-50 and has a very unique signature and sample attached to the carpet.
For rug collectors and basically anyone who loves Hereke rugs as much as I do, this piece is truly a rare find and a very special piece. Made between 1940 to 1950 by the Serhad manufacturere who specialize in not only very fine Hereke rugs, but as a personal touch added a rare signature and a bit of a sampling to each of their rugs. Like so many fine Hereke weavers of the time, the Serhad manufacturere specialized in fine silk Hereke rugs like this 10/10 quality piece, but in order to stand out from the others, they added their own distinctly unique Hereke signature, which you can see in the top left corner of the Hereke carpet.
The other unique feature of the Serhad Hereke rugs is the little bit of weaving that they would always add to the top left corner of their rugs and it looks like a little sampling of the rug. I honestly do not know the origin of this concept, but the few times that I have seen this in other types of rugs has always been in very fine pieces where the weavers or designers wanted to show off their skills and quality of the rugs. In theory, the little sample could be cut off or hidden if the rug were to framed or hang on a wall, but I think it is so unique that it should stay intact as is. The workmanship is everything one would expect from the 10/10 quality Hereke rugs and it is simply a beautiful reminder of the fading Turkish rug history. Given its condition, it was displayed as a decor rug and there are no damages or fading. It is extremely well aged and in exceptional condition.

Info About REAL vs. FAKE Hereke Rugs
Due to the large number of inquiries I receive about genuine and fake Hereke rugs and the misinformation that are being peddled by online and rug store retailers, I have created my own YouTube channel where I offer factual information for you like the video below that is about Hereke Silk Rugs. You can see the video if you view this rug page on a laptop or desktop.

Important Tips about Hereke Carpets

If you own or are interested in silk Hereke rugs, please watch this 17 minute video in which I show you real Turkish silk Hereke rugs and the Chinese silk couterparts that are often sold as genuine Turkish rugs. For over 20 years, I have been getting a lot of inquiries about the Hereke rugs and so many have been scammed by the rug dealers in Turkey that I thought I try to show you the difference using actual rugs.
