RUG INFORMATION:
Finest 22/22 quality Turkish Hereke rug with 3000+ kpsi that we have ever held in our hands.
This extremely rare pure silk Turkish Hereke artpiece with an incredible 3000+ kpsi and a 22/22 quality is NOT a Chinese copy as I explain in the video below and it is one of several ultra fine and rare Turkish artpieces that we are fortunate enough to be able to offer. THIS IS THE FINEST PERSIAN RUG WE HAVE EVER OWNED AND HELD IN OUR OWN HANDS!!
To give you an idea for how fine this small Hereke silk rug is, keep in mind that the 22/22 quality means that there are 22 knots per centimeter or more than 2 knots per millimeter. As if this is not enough, the Hereke rugs are like the Tabriz rugs made with a Turkish knot, which is a double knot. So imagine how how delicate the knots will need to be in order to place 22 double knots into 1 centimeter, which translates into 3000+kpsi and over 4,5 million knots per square meter or about 3000+ kpsi. These type of Hereke rugs are basically no longer made due to their extreme high cost and to give you an idea, imagine a Turkish master weaver making the rug while looking through a magnifying glass in order to make sure that each knot is of the same thickness, quality and strength. Based on what my dad and uncle told us having seen these rugs being made decades ago, we estimate about 5 seconds for each knot and if you do the math, you can see that even a small rug like this one would take about 2 years to make.
It is due to the extreme high labor costs that most Turkish Hereke rugs like this one are of a very small size as larger pieces would simply be too expensive and virtually impossible to make. At fine auctions, we have seen 20/20 and even 25/25 quality pieces, but these are typically of a letter size or smaller. This is the first time that we have actually held a Hereke rug of this quality and size in our hands and even for folks like us, this is a very big deal. Also, with the influx of Chinese imitation rugs that have flooded the Turkish market since the 80's and the rise in labor cost, the weaving of these extremely fine Hereke rugs have become all but extinct. This piece was apparently purchased in the mid 1980's by a private collector who had it displayed with a few other ultra rare pieces and it is in new condition. This is one of two spectacular pieces that we were able to purchase from his family estate and the other one is a 20/20 quality piece. If you are familiar with Turkish Hereke rugs of this caliber, you will know how rare and expensive they can be and even for someone who has been around Persian rugs all his life, this is truly a novelty. Simply a stunning piece and the kind of Persian rug that collectors look for.
