RUG INFORMATION:
Rare Semi-Antique Qum Rug...
This unique semi-antique pure silk Qum Persian rug is a perfect example of what the older pure silk Qum rugs are like and you can see the difference between this piece and the newer ones in terms of quality, colors and workmanship. In the old days, many Qum weavers made the pure silk pieces with Turkish knots like the Tabriz rugs, which gave them the same tightness as the Tabriz rugs. While the Qum rugs starting in the 80's are made with Persian rugs, which allows for more knots and have added more colors to their designs, many collectors of Persian rugs like the older Qum rugs as they are considered to be purer and less commercialized.
The age of this Qum rugs dates back to about 1950-1960 and as was common with silk carpets of that era, the silk is all handspun and only vegetable dyes are used. When you closely at the dark blue background, you can see the slight patina shimmer that is evidence of the dyes aging process. This old Qum rugs was treated like an artpiece and is in excellent condition. For clients who appreciate the old rug weaving techniques, this piece is a great find as finding older silk Qum rugs is becoming more and more difficult.
