Genuine Square Abbasi Bidjar rug.
This square Bidjar rug is a rare example of not only what the high quality Bidjar rugs are famous for, but also made by the Abbasi family.
If you are familiar with Bidjar rugs, you will know why they are also called steel rugs and here is a great example of what the high quality Bidjar rugs are famous for. Made by the Abbasi family, this high quality Bidjar rug features a quality known as Tekab with about 350-400 kpsi, which is very fine for Bidjar rug. Bidjar rugs like this one are meant to be placed in high traffic areas and under heavy furniture. While folklore about Bidjar rugs tell the tales of a triple knot and the weavers soaking the wool in water before making the rugs, the truth is that the Bidjar rugs are made with some of the densest wool from the tribal Kudish regions in the northwestern Iran. The sheep in the region are known for their thick and plush wool and when combined with the same knot type as the Tabriz rugs, which is the Turkish knot, you end up with a rug that will last forever and then some...
What sets the Abbasi Bidjar rugs apart from the rest is that this family adds something of a novelty to their rugs, which are the letters of their family names in the borders of the design. As is customary, large Persian rugs are typically made by a number of weavers and the Abbasi family typically adds the first letters. You will see the letters H in the corner, followed by M and LELE in the center. This is to show to that the rugs made by the Abbasi are not only woven by them, but also designed. In this piece, you will see a large square design that is perfect for a room where a large table can be placed on it as it lacks a center design. The borders and main design feature classic Bidjar colors and it is a great example of what a fine Bidjar rug is all about.
