Genuine Signed Metal Foundation Tabriz rug signed by the weaver...
This rare Tabriz rug features a foundation made of cotton and a silver colored metal. As a result, only 50% of the rug has a pile with the idea being that the Kurkwool will be surrounded by the metal foundation. By leaving the foundation exposed in many areas, the rug appears to have several layers, which makes it a very unusual looking and feeling piece. These Tabriz rugs are truly collector pieces and are to be treated as such. The quality is very high and they are perfectly fine to walk on, but ideal you would place them in a room like a formal living room or even hang it on a wall. In addition, there are large areas of the pile completely made of silk. If you look at the last picture, you can see how the metal in added and all the bright colors are the silk highlights (lots of them). These metal rugs are extremely rare and I am fortunate to know the family connections to get these type of rugs.
The weaver Cheraboni has made many other metal rugs for my family and his signature is also added in the design. His specialty is in this very design and size as well as in the round metal piece that I feature. Thanks to our personal business relationship with the weaver, we typically offer at least one of his rugs in our inventory.
