GUIDE TO BUYING PERSIAN RUGS
Persian Rug Information, History,& Pictures
HOMEPAGE
Quality Service Uniqueness Value
Large square Persian Nain rug with a very high 6-lah quality and about 625 kpsi. These type of high end Nain Persian carpets are very popular with my clients and are great examples of what high end oriental rugs should look and feel like. Most high end Nain Persian rugs feature very traditional designs and even though the majority of the Nain oriental carpets are of a much lower quality, it is these high quality Nain Persian rugs, that has given the name the respect it rightfully deserves. Large rare pure silk Qom Persian rug with a geometric design called Gonbad or Gonbardeh, which is very rare in oriental carpets. My Qom silk oriental rugs are very popular with my clients due to their uniqueness and Persian carpets like this Qum rug are truly showpieces. Designed as a showpiece, silk Persian carpets have become very popular, but are difficult to make due to their extremely quality. Large round Tabriz oriental rug with a geometric design called Gombad or Gombardeh, which is among my most popular designs in Persian carpets. It is thanks to my family connections with many of the weavers in Tabriz that I am able to even get these type of Persian rugs and they are very fine and unique Tabriz carpets. Many of the oriental carpets have sold very quickly, and even though the vast majority of large round Persian rugs are around 7' in diameter, I am still able to offer some like this larger 8' Tabriz oriental carpet and I have even offered some in the 10' range as well, which are some of the most spectacular Persian rugs you will ever see. The design in the oversize room size Persian Tabriz rug is called Gonbad Faraji, which is extremely hard to find in Oriental carpets. Due to my direct family connections, I am able to purchase some of these rare Tabriz oriental rugs and they are very popular with my clients. Designed as a showpiece, these Tabriz carpets tend to be made of a very high quality and are great examples of what fine oriental rugs should look and feel like.

Sample of Tabriz Persian rug Designs, Part 3
Tabriz "Heriz" rugs

Dear visitor,

I have added these pages to my website to show you some of the common designs in Tabriz Persian rugs.
In addition to the Mahi and Gombad design, the "Heriz" pattern is also very well known in Tabriz rugs, even though it is a design that originated outside of Tabriz.  The town of Heriz lies to the east of Tabriz in a mountainous region and the rugs that are produced there are classified as tribal rugs.  Some years ago, the Heriz design started to appear in Tabriz carpets which given the close proximity was not surprising, but the level of quality in the Tabriz Heriz rugs have really made them much more popular. Whereas before, the Heriz carpets were almost always of a lower quality, the Tabriz rugs have incorporated the design in much more high end pieces and have certainly added to their popularity.

Large Persian Tabriz Heriz rug with the traditional design and color combination. These type of Persian rugs are popular with clients who are looking for a south-western style Persian rug similar to that of Native American rugs. This 10x13 foot Tabriz Heriz rug is very unusual in that they are typically not that large and the solid black color is also just as rare in Persian rugs. One of the unique features in the Heriz Persian rug is the earth colors and they are designed to match a more traditional room.

As you can see in the examples, the Heriz design features a geometric pattern that is very different from the traditional looking Persian rugs. The straight lines and edgy design is heavily influenced by the Kazak rugs, which come from southern Azerbaijan, which lies just north of the northwestern part of Iran. The carpets that are made in the former Russian republic such as Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan have very geometric designs and due to their proximity and closeness of the people, the pattern sort of wandered south and is now a very much associated with Iranian rugs. Unlike the Kazak and Heriz rugs, which are typically low quality tribal rugs, the Tabriz rugs have adopted this design and incorporated it into their high quality pieces.  As a result, it is possible to see high end Heriz Tabriz carpets in the 50 Raj (350kpsi), but are most common in the lower quality range. To find them in the higher quality range is extremely rare and and I can also assume a lack of demand for this.  The design itself has remained the same for many years and is centered around a large medallion like in the pictures above. Here, in the US, they are compared to the Native American rugs that also feature geometric patters similar to that of the Heriz design.  As a result, these Tabriz rugs are very popular with folks who are looking for a south-western look.

I hope that you have enjoyed this article about the Tabriz Heriz rugs and feel free to look at my other featured rug designs and my website.  As always, I enjoy hearing my visitor's thoughts and experiences, so drop me a line or two if you like.

Take care,
