GUIDE TO BUYING PERSIAN RUGS
Persian Rug Information, History,& Pictures
HOMEPAGE
Quality Service Uniqueness Value
Large square Persian Nain rug with a very high 6-lah quality and about 625 kpsi. These type of high end Nain Persian carpets are very popular with my clients and are great examples of what high end oriental rugs should look and feel like. Most high end Nain Persian rugs feature very traditional designs and even though the majority of the Nain oriental carpets are of a much lower quality, it is these high quality Nain Persian rugs, that has given the name the respect it rightfully deserves. Large rare pure silk Qom Persian rug with a geometric design called Gonbad or Gonbardeh, which is very rare in oriental carpets. My Qom silk oriental rugs are very popular with my clients due to their uniqueness and Persian carpets like this Qum rug are truly showpieces. Designed as a showpiece, silk Persian carpets have become very popular, but are difficult to make due to their extremely quality. Large round Tabriz oriental rug with a geometric design called Gombad or Gombardeh, which is among my most popular designs in Persian carpets. It is thanks to my family connections with many of the weavers in Tabriz that I am able to even get these type of Persian rugs and they are very fine and unique Tabriz carpets. Many of the oriental carpets have sold very quickly, and even though the vast majority of large round Persian rugs are around 7' in diameter, I am still able to offer some like this larger 8' Tabriz oriental carpet and I have even offered some in the 10' range as well, which are some of the most spectacular Persian rugs you will ever see. The design in the oversize room size Persian Tabriz rug is called Gonbad Faraji, which is extremely hard to find in Oriental carpets. Due to my direct family connections, I am able to purchase some of these rare Tabriz oriental rugs and they are very popular with my clients. Designed as a showpiece, these Tabriz carpets tend to be made of a very high quality and are great examples of what fine oriental rugs should look and feel like.

Sample of Square Persian rug Designs
Tabriz rugs, Nain Rugs, Qom Rugs

Dear visitor,

I have added these pages to my website to show you some of the common designs in Persian rugs.

When we think of Persian rugs, we are typically talking about a rectangular carpet, but there are many other shapes that Persian rugs are made in. One of them is the square shape, which is not as common in Persian carpets, but is none the less part of the Persian rug business and I like to highlight them in this section.
Even though square rugs tend to look similar to the more traditional rectangular Persian carpets as far as the shape is concerned, they are actually much more closely associated with round rugs. This is due to the fact that most square rugs share the same designs as round carpets and tend have large circular pattern. If you look at the samples below, you can see how it appears that the square carpets have round rugs in the center and then just added corners to the outside. This is especially common in the high end Persian rugs like the ones below. The most common square rugs are the more traditional looking rugs with the low quality, heavy pile, and the reds and blues. Since my specialty is in high end Persian rugs that are unusual, I always look for carpets that are different in design or quality. The square rugs that I have picked for this section are all very unique and are all extremely high end Tabriz, Nain, and Qom rugs. If you like more information about each one, just move your mouse over them and hold still, which will allow a message to appear.

7' square Qom carpet made of pure silk. Amongst the most unique Persian square rugs that I have offered so far is this pictorial Qom rug, which depicts dozens of different carpets in the design. It is truly a one-of-a-kind Persian carpet and to have it in this square size is even more rare. This oriental carpet is a 60 raj square Persian Tabriz rug with a large round design and delicate artwork in each corner. As with all 60 raj Tabriz rugs, this Persian carpet has a silk foundation and features over 400 kpsi, which is exceptional for Persian Tabriz rugs. This 8' square Nain rug is one of the finest wool and silk Persian carpets that I have offered so far and is a true 6-Lah Habibian like Persian Nain carpet. Even though it has a cotton foundation, it features over 600 kpsi and is an extremely fine high end square Oriental Carpet.
Another large square Qom rug with a very unusual design that is actually borrowed from Isfahan rugs. This is also a 7' square pure silk Persian carpet and like all of my Qom carpets is made of the highest standards. This particular Qom rug was sold to a client in Sweden and like most of my Qom rug buyers it ended up being hung on a wall. One of my most popular designs is showcased in this 8' square Persian Tabriz carpet, which is also a 60 raj high end Oriental carpet made with a silk foundation. Large square rugs are not that common and finding large square rugs is even more rare. The design is called Gombad or Gombardeh and it has become one of the most popular designs in Persian rugs. The largest square rug in this section is this 10' square Qom rug, and like all of the others is made of pure silk. This particular Persian carpet was the first Qom rug that I have seen in this oversized square shape and have not been able to find more since.

As you can see in the examples, round Persian rugs typically feature a medallion, but the overall design can vary greatly with each rug. The two reasons why many retailers will typically not offer these type of rugs is that they are much more expensive than ordinary Persian rugs and therefore less profitable and also because they are less available. Most of the high end round rugs are made in Tabriz and I am fortunate to have the direct family contact that allow me to purchase these rare pieces. Some carpets, like the metal and Mahi rugs, are in fact so extremely rare that other retailers will often buy them from me and then turn around and sell them for much more to their own clients. Below are more example of round Persian rugs and I have also added a couple of oval Persian rugs, since they are even more rare and are often made by the same weavers as the round rugs. Oval Persian rugs are so rare that you rarely ever find them and they are very unusual. Just like the round rugs, the oval rugs are also typically made in Tabriz and I have included samples below. Just to give you an example, the oval twin rugs for purchased by a retailer the same day that I had received them and were then offered at their store for resale. Feel free to look around stores and websites and see for yourself just how rare these rugs are.

I hope that you have enjoyed this article about the round and oval Persian carpets and feel free to look at my other featured rug designs and my website.  As always, I enjoy hearing my visitor's thoughts and experiences, so drop me a line or two if you like.

Take care,
