John T.

"Mike,
Greetings again from Kuwait. I wanted to let you know that the carpet arrived in Japan on Feb 24 -- that was nice and quick. My wife Naoko is very pleased with the rug and has already found a good spot to put it.
Thank you kindly, it has been a pleasure doing business with you, and of course I will be spreading the good word about MP Rugs.
Most sincerely, John"

Featured Persian Rug Design
"Fine Tabriz Rugs"

This large Tabriz Persian carpet features a dome shaped design known as Ghombad Faraji. It is a very rare variation of the main Gombardeh design and extremely hard to find in oriental rugs. Typically, this design is only made in very high quality 60raj+ Tabriz Persian rugs, but I have been able to offer similar Tabriz carpets in larger sizes. Like all of my other 50 raj Tabriz rugs, this carpet is designed to be a showpiece and also very durable. Very Fine Persian Isfahan carpet with a picturial and star shaped design, which is very hard to find in Oriental rugs. Even though my specialty is in Tabriz and Qom Persian rugs, I am also on occasion able to offer other types of oriental carpets like this Isfahan rug. Picturial rugs are sought after for their uniqueness and are often hang on walls or even framed. Most of my oriental carpets sell very quickly due to my passion for quality and they often keep their value as they get older.
The most popular and sought after Persian rugs are the Tabriz rugs, which are named after Tabriz, the second largest city in Iran. These Persian rugs have been made for centuries and come in all shapes, qualities, and designs. My specialty is in the high end Tabriz rugs that are at least 50 raj (~350 kpsi) and are often made with very fine Kurkwool (lamb wool) and silk highlights. Unlike most other types of Persian rugs, Tabriz rugs often feature very unique designs and colors that can be very non-traditional and I always try to find new and rare pieces that other retailers shun due to their cost or scarcity. As you look around my website, you will see that I only offer high quality and genuine Tabriz rugs and my personal passion are for the more unique pieces.

Fine Tabriz Persian Rug Showcase

8' round Persian rug being handmade by weavers in Tabriz, Iran. As with all genuine and high quality Persian rugs, Tabriz rugs are handmade Persian rugs that are made one at a time.

All of the Persian rugs that I offer are genuine handmade rugs made by weavers in Iran as you can see in this picture.
Handmade Persian rugs like this round Tabriz rug can take several months to weave and most large Persian rugs are made by several rug weavers, who work side by side.  It is very common to find a husband sitting beside his wife and weaving Persian rugs is often a family run business where all members are involved.
My family has been in the Persian rug business for several generations now and this is why we have been able to get to know many of the rug weavers in Tabriz.  Unlike most rug businesses, who purchase their rugs from other wholesalers and are able to offer many different types of Persian rugs, my family has it's roots in Tabriz and we have specialized in genuine high quality Tabriz rugs.  In addition, I also offer many different Qom and Nain Persian rugs, which are also of a very high quality.

All of my Tabriz and Nain Persian rugs are made of fine Kurkwool and have most have large silk highlights or have silk added to the pile. The Qom rugs that I offer are all pure silk and are the of the very high quality. Here you can see a young man trimming the silk highlights and adding the final touches on the Persian rug. Large Persian Tabriz rugs like this 10' by 14' piece can take several months to make and are typically woven by 2 to 4 people. Once a Persian rug is complete, it is removed from the frame, trimmed, washed, and then sold to buyers or local shop owners. The person in the back in my mother, who lives in Tabriz, and she is my main purchaser. Our passion and respect for the Persian rug weavers has allowed us to purchase many of these truly unique Persian rugs and we maintain a tremendous relationship with many of them.

For more information and pictures, please visit my information pages.

This Persian rug weaver is using a special shaving tool to trim the silk highlights, which is a commonly done in high quality Persian rugs.

Very Fine Persian Tabriz rug with a picturial design in the center, which is very hard to find in Persian rugs. Even though my specialty is in high end Persian rugs, I am still impressed by the quality and workmanship of some of the rugs that I offer and this unique Tabriz Persian rug is a great example.

Persian Rug Type #1: Tabriz rugs
Tabriz Persian rugs are probable the best known Persian rugs and especially the high end ones are very popular with folks all over the world.  Tabriz is the second largest city in Iran and one of the main Persian rug producing areas.  One of the reasons why the Tabriz Persian rugs are so popular is they come in all kinds of shapes, colors, design, and qualities.  Unlike most other types of Persian rugs, these pieces can vary greatly even though there are a few standard designs like the Mahi, Gonbad, and traditional medallion rugs.

Large round pure silk Qom Persian rug with a geometric design called Gombad or Gombardeh. Round Persian rugs are rare and to round pure silk Qom rugs are extremely hard to find and are very valueable.

Persian Rug Type #2: Qom rugs
Among the finest and most expensive Persian rugs are the pure silk Qom rugs, named after the city of Qom, which lies in the mid center of Iran.  In addition to being a large Persian rug producing city, Qom is also the religious center of Iran.  Qom Persian rugs come in two basic qualities, the standard quality wool type and the super high end pure silk types.
All of the Qom Persian rugs that I offer are made of pure silk and as you can see in my galleries, they can vary greatly in size, shapes, colors, and designs.  Even though the more traditional Qom rugs are the most widely available, I always look for unique and rare pieces since they are extremely precious rugs.

Another very fine Persian rug is this long Nain Persian rug with over 600 kpsi and a very unique design, which is very rare in runners. Nain Persian rugs are best known for their lower quality pieces, but all of the Nain rugs that I offer are made of a very high quality, which is also called 6-Lah.

Persian Rug Type #3: Nain rugs
Another popular type of Persian rugs are the Nain rugs, which are made in the small town of Nain, located in the south center of the Iran.  Unlike the Tabriz Persian rugs, Nain rugs are very traditional in designs, colors, and shapes.  It is just in the last 10 years, that other designs have also been featured in Nain rugs in larger numbers.  Most Nain Persian rugs are of a very low quality, but the ones that I offer are all genuine 6-Lah rugs, meaning that they have 6 threads in each single fringe.  These very high end Nain Persian rugs can have up to 600 kpsi and are extremely soft and fine.

One of my most unique Persian rugs that I have offered is this large Tabriz Persian rug with a very rare design and color combination. Most Persian rugs feature a more traditional design, but this green color and general design is very unusual and the silk highlights are very vibrant due to the rich green surrounding color.

Persian Rug Type #4: Isfahan rugs
Lastly, I like to briefly discuss the Isfahan Persian rugs, which are also very popular with folks all around the world.  The city of Isfahan is very close to the town of Nain in the south center of Iran and has been a Persian rug producing center for many years.  The lower quality Isfahan rugs are very similar to Tabriz rugs, but the high end pieces tend to be very traditional and almost always feature a silk foundation. The high end Isfahan and Nain Persian rugs tend to use similar colors, which often focus on whites, blues, and reds.  Since my personal passion is always in the rare and unusual designs and shapes, I always look for unique Persian rugs like this rare Isfahan Persian rug that you see to the left.
