Dear Visitor,
My name is Mike Panah, owner of MP Persian Rug Imports, and I like to welcome you to my website, which I started in October of 1999.  Unlike most other Persian rug retailers, I only offer genuine high quality Persian carpets that are selected by myself or my family.  In addition, you will find lots of current information and advice about Persian rugs throughout my website.

As you browse around my website, you will see for yourself my sincere and straight forward approach to Persian rugs without any gimmicks or bogus sale pitches. This website and business is my personal passion and my low overhead allows me to sell the rugs at a lower price than virtually anyone else.  Feel free to look around and don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.
Best wishes,

Mike Panah

Featured Oriental Carpet Design
"Odd Shaped Carpets"

Medium sized twin Tabriz oriental rugs with a diamond shape, which is one of the most unique Persian carpets that I have ever offered. My specialty is in rare and truly unique Persian rugs like this set and many of my oriental carpets are so rare that they are actually purchased by other retailers who then turn around and sell them in their stores. Due to my direct family connections in Tabriz, I am able to receive some of the most remarkable Tabriz Persian rugs, which are well known for their at times rare designs. Another very rare Persian Tabriz rug is this star-shaped oriental carpet, which has received a trememdous amount of interest. Due to my family's Persian rug business in Tabriz, which has been there for generations, I am able to offer some of these rare Tabriz oriental carpets. My family has direct contacts with many of the weavers in the city and as a result I can purchase Persian rugs that most other oriental carpet retailers are unable to unwilling to offer because of the uniqueness or cost of the Persian rugs.
This featured rug design is my personal favorite due to the fact that I can showcase some of the most unusual Oriental carpets that you and I have probably ever seen. My passion lies in these unique shaped oriental carpets and it is always exciting when I can find a piece that is completely unexpected from the norm. We all have seen the standard shaped rectangular and perhaps round carpets, but how often do you see diamond shaped twins, octagons, star shapes, ovals, metals, or other shaped carpets that are completely different from the rest of the pack. Even though these unique carpets tend to be very expensive and are often not profitable for retailers, I not only enjoy these rare rugs, but I always look for more.

Odd Shaped Oriental Carpet Showcase

Qum Oriental carpets #3. Pure silk Qum oriental carpets like this large pictorial carpet with a hunting design are often hang on walls and even framed. Even though these high quality oriental carpets are perfect for traffic, most of my clients prefer to hang the Qum carpets and as a result they tend to keep their value.Qum Gonbad Oriental carpets #6. Rare pure silk Qum oriental carpet with a dome shaped design called Gonbad, which is most commonly found in Tabriz oriental carpets. This Gonbad design is very popular with my clients and it is very rare to find in high quality pure silk Qum oriental carpets.

As I have stated above, all of the Oriental carpets that you see in this website are genuine handmade and I offer high quality oriental carpets.
For example, I only offer pure silk Qom oriental carpets even though there are plenty of lower quality Qom wool carpets available. One of the reasons why my clients keep coming back and referring others is the fact that they know that I will now shortchange them when it comes to the quality of the Oriental carpets in my website.  Unlike virtually all Oriental carpet stores that you find locally and on the internet, I deliberately go out of my way to offer only you a fine selection of Oriental carpets that any carpet store owner would be proud off.

Another example of the types of Oriental carpets that I offer are these two round Oriental carpets from the city of Tabriz in Iran.
Again, just like with the Qom carpets that I described above, most Oriental stores offer lots of lower quality Tabriz carpets, but not in this website.  I don't just look for genuine handmade Oriental carpets, but for ones that have the high quality that I and my clients demand.  These two round Tabriz carpets are both made of very fine lamb wool and silk, which is typical of high quality Tabriz oriental carpets.  Again, I could offer lower quality carpets like the other carpet stores, but I won't lower my standards just to make a few extra bucks.

Round Oriental carpets #4. Large round Tabriz oriental carpet with silk highlights and a very high quality. Among the hardest to find sizes in round oriental carpets is the 10' diameter like in this high quality round Tabriz oriental carpet Round Tabriz Oriental carpets #5. Round oriental carpet with a dome shape design, which is called Gonbad. This large Gonbad Tabriz carpet shows the most popular design in fine round oriental carpets and the most common round Gonbad carpets are found in the larger sizes.

Isfahan Oriental carpets #7. Small Isfahan oriental carpet with silk foundation and a very high quality. Most high end oriental carpets have a cotton foundation and only the very quality oriental rugs like these Isfahan carpets have a silk foundation.

Showcase #1: Pictorial Oriental Carpets
Among the most popular oriental carpet designs that I offer are the Pictorial carpets like this small one that you see to the left. Unlike most other types of oriental carpets, pictorial carpets are most often made of a high quality simple due to the nature of design. In order to truly make the details stand out and give it the luxurious look, the designs calls for a high knot count and very fine materials. As a result, most oriental carpets with a picture design are made using fine Lamb wool and silk is often added to bring out the highlights in the picture.  For example, this Isfahan carpet not only features all of these high quality requirements, but it is made with a silk foundation and many of these rugs end up being hang on walls.

Oval Oriental carpets #2. This oval oriental carpet is made in Tabriz and features a very high quality. My personal passion is for rare oriental carpets and this oval tabriz carpet is a great example of one.

Showcase #2: Oval Oriental Carpets
Another example of the type of oriental carpets that I look for is this high end oval oriental carpet from Tabriz. Like all of my carpets, this one is also handmade of a very fine quality, but it is the oval shape that sets it apart from virtually all other oriental carpets.  Uniquely shaped oriental carpets like this oval Tabriz carpet are very hard to make by hand and as a result they tend to be very hard to find and more expensive.  In the case of the oval carpets, there are only a few weavers who even have the skill to make them and it can take quiet a bit longer to make an oval rug than a regular shaped oriental carpet.  One of the biggest challenges that I face is just to find some of these rare oriental carpets.

Qum Gonbad Oriental carpets #6. Rare pure silk Qum oriental carpet with a dome shaped design called Gonbad, which is most commonly found in Tabriz oriental carpets. This Gonbad design is very popular with my clients and it is very rare to find in high quality pure silk Qum oriental carpets.

Showcase #3: Pure Silk Oriental Carpets
One of finest types of oriental carpets are the handmade pure silk carpets and among the best known are the Qom oriental carpets.  Even though there are also other types of pure silk oriental carpets, the vast majority of them are made in Qom, which is why they are so well known.  Silk Qom oriental carpets are very elegant carpets and are really designed to be showpieces.  I always recommend to place them in low traffic areas or formal settings, where these rugs are truly become a focal point.  Many of my clients also like to hang them on walls and it is also quiet common to see them framed in picture frames.

Square Oriental carpets sample #9. This large square Tabriz oriental carpet features a very high quality and also has an equally unique design. Square Oriental carpets like this Tabriz piece are centerpieces and are often the focal point of any room.

Showcase #4: High Quality Oriental Carpets
Lastly, I like to briefly discuss high quality oriental carpets and give you some idea of what they are and how to tell them apart from the low and standard quality oriental carpets.  Since I constantly point out the fact that all of my oriental carpets are high quality and valuable, I think it's only fair that I point out some of tell-tell signs.  First, virtually all high quality oriental carpets are made of lamb wool and have silk highlights, and some are even made of pure silk.  When you run your hand over the pile, it should be soft, dense, and the knots should be very tight. Also, if you look at the back of the carpet, the knots should be very small, smooth, and most high end oriental carpets have at least 300 kpsi.
