Showcase of "Odd" Persian Rugs
Octagon, Star, Oval, Twins, Metal....

Dear Visitor,
If you have looked around my website, you will have probably noticed that I like to offer Persian rugs that are a bit different than what most retailers will offer. Being that this is a small home business and more of a hobby, I decided years ago that I would do things my way and pursue my passion for the rare and out-of-norm. Growing up with oriental carpets, I have seen way too many rugs and unfortunately most all seem to be about the same. I distinctly remember being about 10 and visiting my relatives in Iran, where one of my uncles had a large octagon rug under his dining room table and I thought it was the coolest rug that I have ever seen. Everyone commented how gorgeous the Tabriz rug was and yet no retailer would ever be stupid enough to offer it since it was too unique to be profitable and would lay in a retail store for years. Since then I promised myself that if I ever started my own rug business, I would do the exact opposite and look for rugs that nobody else would want. I often receive e-mails and calls from clients who tell me that some of the rugs I offer are so unique, that they have never seen or thought that they could even exist.
So, this page is dedicated to some of the most unusual pieces that I have ever offered and I hope that you enjoy them as much as I have.

Medium sized twin Tabriz oriental rugs with a diamond shape, which is one of the most unique Persian carpets that I have ever offered. My specialty is in rare and truly unique Persian rugs like this set and many of my oriental carpets are so rare that they are actually purchased by other retailers who then turn around and sell them in their stores. Due to my direct family connections in Tabriz, I am able to receive some of the most remarkable Tabriz Persian rugs, which are well known for their at times rare designs. Another very rare Persian Tabriz rug is this star-shaped oriental carpet, which has received a trememdous amount of interest. Due to my family's Persian rug business in Tabriz, which has been there for generations, I am able to offer some of these rare Tabriz oriental carpets. My family has direct contacts with many of the weavers in the city and as a result I can purchase Persian rugs that most other oriental carpet retailers are unable to unwilling to offer because of the uniqueness or cost of the Persian rugs. One of my more unique shaped Persian rugs is this octagon Tabriz oriental carpet, which is very hard to find among Persian carpets. Odd shaped oriental rugs are very hard to make and thanks to my family connections I am able to offer some of these rare pieces like this octagon Tabriz Persian carpet. Made of very fine kurkwool and lots of silk highlights, this Tabriz Persian rug is designed to be both durable and yet very luxurious. High quality Tabriz oriental carpets sample #10. Oversized Tabriz Oriental carpet with a tribal design, lots of silk highlights and a 60 raj silk foundation. Large oriental carpets like this high end Tabriz carpet are very rare and definite showpieces.
Small oval pure silk Qom Persian rug with the fringes removed, which is extremely rare in oriental carpets. Oval carpets are always rare and this Qum carpet was the only one that I have ever offered with these rare colors and without any fringes. The light blue color and the overall oval shape make this a very unique and almost strange looking Persian carpet. Another rare Persian carpet in this medium sized star shaped Tabriz oriental rug and one of my most unusual looking carpets. The quality of the fine kurkwool and silk make this Tabriz rug and all of my other oriental carpets perfect as a showpiece, but they are also very durable and will easily last you a life time. High end Tabriz Persian rugs are very well repected for their quality and rare oriental carpets like this one are very hard to find. One of my personal favorites is this oval twin Persian rugs and they sold the same day that they arrived to another oriental carpet retailer, who saw the value and opportunity to resale these oval Persian carpets. Oval Persian carpets are some of the most difficult oriental rugs to weave and they are very rare. It is only due to my family connections, that I am able to purchase these rare Persian Tabriz rugs and they have me very popular with my clients. Other than Tabriz carpets, the only other well known source of oval rugs are the oval Qom carpets. Qum Oriental carpet #1. Antique oriental carpets like this old Oriental Qum carpet are very hard to find and tend to be showpieces. Depending on age and condion, many old Qum oriental carpets can be found in exhibitions and museums.
Large square Tabriz Persian rug with a combination of a Mahi design and other patterns, which is extremely rare in oriental carpets. The borders of this Tabriz carpet are made with metal fields and the star shaped field feature a Mahi pattern. Oriental rugs like this Tabriz carpet are extremely rare and combined with a square size makes for a truly masterpiece. Large round Tabriz Persian rug with a metal foundation making it one of the most unusual design in oriental carpets. Tabriz metal Persian rugs are among my most popular oriental carpets and they sell very fast. In fact, many of these rare round Persian rugs have been sold to other oriental carpet retailers, who then turn around and sell them for three to four times the purchase price. These oriental rugs are truly showpieces and are to be treated as such. One of my personal favorites are these twin Persian Tabriz rugs and they sold the same day that they arrived to another oriental carpet retailer, who saw the value and opportunity to resale these rare Persian carpets. Twin Persian carpets are some of the most difficult oriental rugs to weave and they are very rare. It is only due to my family connections, that I am able to purchase these rare Persian Tabriz rugs and they have me very popular with my clients. Other than Tabriz carpets, the only other well known source of oval rugs are the oval Qom carpets.

As you can see in the examples above, odd shaped rugs come in all shapes and sizes. Due to their rarity, they are almost always made of very fine Kurkwool and silk like in the Tabriz rugs or are made of pure silk like the oval Qom rug in the left side of the middle row.  Designed to be showpieces as well as practical, my clients have often told me about the great remarks they are getting from their family and friends and these are definitely very unusual looking Persian rugs.

I hope that you have enjoyed this article about the oval Persian rugs and feel free to look at my other featured rug designs and my website.  As always, I enjoy hearing my visitor's thoughts and experiences, so drop me a line or two if you like.

Take care,
