Showcase of "Round"
Persian Rugs
|
Dear Visitor,
I have added these pages to my website to show you
some of the common designs in Persian rugs.
Another very popular design in Persian rugs are round rugs and this
section is devoted to several types of different designs. Round
Persian rugs are a fairly new phenomenon and they have become much
more common in the last 20 years or so. However, they are still
among the more unique Persian rugs due to the fact that most weavers
do not have the skills to make these type of rugs. If you like to
see a round rug being made, click on the Persian rug Information
page on the left and you will see a round Tabriz rug being made.
Weaving a round rug is extremely difficult and only a small
percentage of weavers have mastered this skill. As a result, round
rugs tend to be be of a high end quality and they are more expensive
than ordinary Persian rugs with one notable exception being the
round Nain rugs. The Nain rugs are pretty much the only type of
Persian rugs where low quality rugs are more common than the high
quality pieces and finding a high end 6-Lah in a round shape is
extremely rare. On the other hand, round Qom rugs and Tabriz rugs
are almost always of a high end quality and it is virtually
impossible to find them with a low quality.
Below you will several examples from my past and current collection
and if you like to read more about any specific piece, just move
your mouse over one of the pictures and hold it still for a second.
A description will pop up and you can read more about it.

As you can see in the examples, round Persian rugs typically feature
a medallion, but the overall design can vary greatly with each rug.
The two reasons why many retailers will typically not offer these
type of rugs is that they are much more expensive than ordinary
Persian rugs and therefore less profitable and also because they are
less available. Most of the high end round rugs are made in Tabriz
and I am fortunate to have the direct family contact that allow me
to purchase these rare pieces. Some rugs, like the metal and Mahi
rugs, are in fact so extremely rare that other retailers will often buy them
from me and then turn around and sell them for much more to their
own clients. Below are more example of round Persian rugs and feel free to look around stores and websites and
see for yourself just how rare these rugs are.
