Quality Service Uniqueness Value
Room size Persian Tabriz rug with a classical Gonbad or Gonbardeh design, which refers to the dome shaped design of the oriental carpet. This Persian carpet design is typically found in large oriental carpets and is a specialty of Tabriz rugs, even though it is sometimes found in other types of Persian carpets. It is one of the more modern design and very popular with my clients, who are looking for a durable showpiece Persian rug. Large room sized Nain Persian rug with a very unique design and very traditional Nain carpet colors. Nain rugs are made near and in the city of Isfahan and they come in various types of quality like most other Persian carpets. The Nain rugs that I feature are made of a very high quality and to have over 600 kpsi is not unusual. To begin with, all of my Nain oriental carpets are 6-lah quality and I always look for unique designs like this one. Another very unusual Persian carpet is this octagon Tabriz rug with a silk foundation and a 60 raj quality. Due to my personal passion for rare and unique oriental carpets, I always try to offer rugs that are different from what most other retailers sell in their stores. This Tabriz carpet was actually a twin set, but due to the large size I sold both carpets seperately. Finding octagon shaped Persian rugs is extremely rare and this twin set were the first ones that I have offered so far. Large square pure silk Qom Persian rug with a design featuring many different Oriental carpets. Square oriental rugs are rare and to round pure silk Persian carpets are extremely hard to find and are very valueable. This type of a Qom Persian rug often has over 700 kpsi and it made of the finest pure silk. Many of my clients like to buy the Qom oriental carpets for floors, but are also used for hanging on walls.

Showcase of "Oval" Persian Rugs

Dear Visitor,
Another very rare shape in Persian rugs are oval carpets and this section is will showcase a few that I was fortunate enough to offer in the past and present. Oval Persian carpets are a fairly new design in oriental rugs and have only been around for the last 20 to 30 years. Keep in mind though that we are talking about a very hard to find shape and if you have looked for one on the internet and in stores, you will know what I mean with rare.
There are 3 basic reasons why oval rugs are so darn hard to find. The biggest reason for a small supply is the shape, which is so hard to weave and to maintain. It is extremely hard to first weave the oval shape and then ensure that it will stay oval, that most weavers will not even attempt them. A good example is a large beige oval Tabriz rug that I have had for a number of years and it has a very common problem in oval rugs. As with all of the oriental rugs, it had to be washed after it was completed and one side decided to stretch a tiny bit more than the other, which causes it to have a couple of folds that will not stay flat. Of course, we had already bought the rug at that time so now it's my problem. This is also why I will never buy another odd shaped Persian rug until it is completely done. The second reason why the oval ones are so rare is that there is only a small demand for them and as a rule, the weavers like to make rugs that they can sell quickly at the bazaars or to wholesalers, knowing that their merchandise is popular and in demand. Oval carpets have always been more of a novelty and they need a special place or else the shape will not work with the rest of the decor. Since the retailers know that the demand is very small, they will not bother with the oval rugs and rather invest their money in other types of rugs. The third and final reason is that odd shaped rugs are only available in certain types of Persian rugs and even than are very rare. Most of the oval rugs are made in the high quality range and the most common ones are the Tabriz rugs and sometimes the pure silk Qom rugs, that's about it. Most regions in Iran do not produce any odd shaped rugs and so far at least, I have never seen any oval pieces other than from Tabriz and Qom. If you do come across any other ones,  I would love to see a picture of one.
Below you will several examples from my past and current collection and if you like to read more about any specific piece, just move your mouse over one of the pictures and hold it still for a second.  A description will pop up and you can read more about it.

Among the most unusual Persian rugs I have offered is this oval Tabriz oriental carpet. Since this oriental carpet business is more of a hobby, I can look for and offer Tabriz carpets like this Persian rug that are truly unique and very rare. Many of my visitors have commented about the rare oriental rugs that I offer and I hope to be able to offer more in the years to come. Persian carpets #4. Oval Persian carpets like this pure silk Qom persian carpet are extremely rare. Due to the difficulty in weaving oval carpets, Persian carpets like this oval Qom carpet are very valuable and sought after. Another one of the most unusual Persian carpets that I have offered is this large oval Tabriz oriental rug. Since this business is more of a hobby, I can look for and offer rare Tabriz carpets like this oval Persian rug that are truly unique. Persian oval rugs are much more difficult to make than the round oriental rugs and large oval rugs like this Tabriz carpet are extremely rare and very sought-after. One of my personal favorites is this oval twin Persian rugs and they sold the same day that they arrived to another oriental carpet retailer, who saw the value and opportunity to resale these oval Persian carpets. Oval Persian carpets are some of the most difficult oriental rugs to weave and they are very rare. It is only due to my family connections, that I am able to purchase these rare Persian Tabriz rugs and they have me very popular with my clients. Other than Tabriz carpets, the only other well known source of oval rugs are the oval Qom carpets.
Small oval pure silk Qom Persian rug with the fringes removed, which is extremely rare in oriental carpets. Oval carpets are always rare and this Qum carpet was the only one that I have ever offered with these rare colors and without any fringes. The light blue color and the overall oval shape make this a very unique and almost strange looking Persian carpet. Rare pure silk oval Qom Persian carpet in a 4x6 size with a rare gold and burgundy color combination, which is also very rare in oriental rugs. This design is rarely ever found in Persian rugs and the few that I have offered have always been silk Qum carpets. It is one of the more unusual Persian rugs and I have been looking for another one for quiet some time. Typically, the oval rugs have a very traditional design with a large medaillion, but this silk Qom carpet features a unique design along with a rare shape and colors. This large oval Tabriz rug was completed in late 2006 and shipped to me shortly after. I am always very cautious about the oval Persian rugs due to the possibilities of them being slightly off center, which can make the design and shape look very bad. This particular oval Tabriz carpet is extremely well made and I was very pleased to see the quality of the rug as well as the obvious skill of the carpet weaver. There are lots of silk highlights in this oval Tabriz rug and it is designed to be a showpiece and also to be very durable. Persian carpet #5. Oval Qum Persian carpet made of pure silk with over 700 kpsi. All of my Qum Persian carpets are made of the highest quality and I only offer pure silk Qum rugs like this rare oval Persian carpet.

As you can see in the examples above, oval rugs typically feature a large medallion and tend to have more traditional looking patterns. Due to their rarity, they are almost always made of very fine Kurkwool and silk like in the Tabriz rugs or are made of pure silk like the two Qom rugs in the lower left and lower center picture. Designed to be showpieces as well as practical, my clients have often told me about the great remarks they are getting from their family and friends and these are definitely very unusual looking Persian rugs.

I hope that you have enjoyed this article about the oval Persian rugs and feel free to look at my other featured rug designs and my website.  As always, I enjoy hearing my visitor's thoughts and experiences, so drop me a line or two if you like.

Take care,
